Touching Lives-Making a Difference

"I will offer to You the sacrifice of thanksgiving, And will call upon the name of the Lord."

Psalm 116:17

We are constantly hearing great stories of the wonderful things God is doing through this ministry.   Here are a few we thought you might enjoy!

Please email us your story to stories@angelfoodministries.com, and we may include it on our website, or feature it in our upcoming issue of The Servant Magazine.

I went today to pick up my first order of Angel Food. I am so excited I can hardly sit still. My freezer is full to capacity and then some.

Today we received our first distribution of Angel Food Ministries food. I ordered it a few weeks ago and my husband was very worried that we would receive sub standard food and that I had wasted my money.

I just wanted to say Thank you from the bottom of my heart! You have helped me and my daughters more than I can express. I work full time; I am a full time student and also a newly single mother of two small girls. I have been turned down for assistance for everything, food, utilities, daycare, etc. because they say I make to much but yet we can not afford basic need things. I know I have gone days without eating just to make sure my girls eat a little (and this is not a great thing because I am diabetic). I just found your program this past weekend and I have told many of my friends who are in need also.

I just wanted to write you and Thank you for the blessing your ministry has meant to our family ... I am handicapped and housebound and my hubby and son have been out of work since August and both will be starting school this next week hubby for retraining in computers and son for training to be a fireman ....we are in Ohio and our oldest son in NC told us about your ministry ... Its blessed us so much to be able to make it through this difficult stage that God we believe is preparing us to serve Him better ... Our dream that God has laid on our hearts is to open a place for homeless called Life's Inn and help train them in rehabbing homes they can live in and learn skills with and help them up ... You are all in our thoughts and prayers daily Thank you again !!!

I wanted to thank you for your ministry of food. I am very grateful that I am able to benefit from your ministry. Your food makes a difference in my life and that of a neighbor of mine. We share a box and we are both enjoying it.

Good day,

A few weeks ago I sent out a prayer request for my daughter in law, Becca. She was told by a doctor that she had thyroid cancer. Neither she nor I believed that report. We know there is only one “C” and that is Christ, that cancer, aids, poverty, illness and maladies of all types are only names – “That at the name of Jesus every knee must bow, in heaven and on earth and under the earth.” (Philippians 2:10). A few days ago a different doctor did a biopsy, and the results came back yesterday. Yep, only one “C” over our house, Christ! Not cancer. I want to thank you and bless you for your prayers and support and many emails. I haven’t been able to answer each one, but I’m so grateful we have each other and can share together the needs of the Body of Christ worldwide. We give the Lord Jesus all the glory, praise and thanks, for there is no other Name under heaven by which we can be saved.

I just wanted to write and commend you for providing such a wonderful service for all those in need of low cost food. So many people go hungry in this country and I'm glad to see such an innovative program in place that will help so many people. I hope to be able to purchase some boxes to donate to all those in need. Thank you again for developing and running such a great program!

I just want to share a story that a lady shared with me yesterday. She came in to talk with me and this is her story: Her name is Dianne. She is disabled with arthritis and her daughter is also disabled. Her daughter (we will call her Ann) has children and Ann's husband has left her and filed for divorce. She has 600 dollars a month coming in on her disability and she is on food stamps. She has been ordering for a couple of months. She has a degree in business. When Dianne fixed the ribeye steaks for the family this weekend out of her unit. The six year old looked at it and would not touch it because she did not even know what it was, had never seen steak before. When Dianne told her what it was she looked at her funny. Ann had bought the specials to help feed her family for the month and I was asked the question, Am I being a good stewart if I buy steaks with these food stamps. My reply to her, You deserve a steak as well as anyone else does. Until you work with this ministry you will never get the true concept of what it is doing for families in the community. Thank you for giving us the privilege to serve our community in such a way. We have really been thankful for the opportunity to work in such a wonderful ministry.

When I ordered my first box of Angel Food, I was unsure of what to expect, but I was extremely happy to see the food we received! It has fed our family for a few weeks now, and we still have food in the freezer. The Lord is so gracious! We are truly blessed to see how the Lord is using your ministry to help so many including my own family! Thank you so very much.

I am an Outreach Coordinator for a host site in NJ. The ministry is growing in our church each month. I am continually hearing great reviews from participants. However, the greatest news came from my 9-year-old daughter. This year she suffered a brain injury and was homebound for a while. Additionally my mother-in-law passed away from cancer four days before Christmas. To say my daughter was in pain was an understatement. Watching her struggle emotionally made me feel helpless and frustrated.

About three months ago, I "made” her come with me to Angel Food distribution. Miss Wanda immediately came over, made her feel welcome, then asked my daughter to lend a hand. I wasn't surprised that my daughter helped, but I was surprised by the huge smile that never left her face the entire time! Watching her hand out those pies and thanking folks for participating in the program made me so proud. As we were leaving, I asked her what she thought of it all. "It feels right Mom. I need to give back,” she said. I didn't need to ask her what she meant, let's just say that the Lord moved my daughter that day.

Thank you for what this ministry has given my community and my family.

We have really enjoyed our Angel Food and we’re planning to order again. Some of the items were more processed than we usually eat—like the popcorn chicken (I don’t usually deep fry), but the majority was very much the kind of food we buy. I’m excited about the July order, not only the regular box but also the specials. We’ll probably order a few boxes. And I want to ask our local host site if Elliana, our 4-year-old, and I can volunteer for the next distribution. Even though she’s young, she would be very good at separating food into boxes or organizing boxes. I’d like to use this as an opportunity to teach her about volunteering and giving of her time. The host site is a small Baptist church and the pastor of the church loaded the box of food into our car! It was a bit disarming to see the pastor out among the people doing hands-on labor. I’ve been re-introduced to what it means to serve and have a servant’s heart through Angel Food. It’s very basic, but it’s very profound.

I have a steady job and make a decent wage. But, like a lot of working people, it had been a long time since I had been able to afford red meat, much less steaks. Until I found out about Angel Food, I ate mostly chicken, sometimes hot dogs. When I talked to friends and coworkers about Angel Food, they thought it was a program for the needy and they shouldn't take advantage of it. I was happy to tell them it's for everybody! Now others are ordering too. Angel Food improves my life a little almost every day and I do truly thank you.

Recently I had my second child, but with the cost of gas and day care I couldn't go back to work. I was struggling to put food on our table. A friend told me about Angel Food while I was watching her kids over the summer to earn a little extra money. Your program was a lifesaver! By purchasing Angel Food and your specials, I can feed my family almost a month! Thank you so much!

I tried the Easy Roasted Pork Loin recipe featured in the July issue and it was fantastic! I "tweaked" it to use the pineapple from the fruit and veggie special, added 1/2 tsp cinnamon and decreased the ginger. I didn't have an oven bag, so I cooked it in a regular pan covered with aluminum foil. Even my finicky 13-year-old daughter went back for seconds! I served it with roasted potatoes (also from veggie box), frozen mixed veggies and a roasted squash my friend gave me from her garden! It was like gourmet eating in my own home. Thank you so much for featuring this and giving me a new idea for dinner. Angel Food has been a godsend to us. I'm telling everyone about it!

I began getting Angel Food from the Annointed Christ Community Church in Landrum, S.C. about 3 months ago. Words cannot express my gratitude. I am a single mother and needed help! With the rising price of gas, electricity and other bills it is wonderful to know there are people out there who care about their neighbors. Why, last month Mr. Foster even gave me a bag of plums with my order. God is good all the time.

My husband had been laid off for two months from his fulltime job and money was so tight that food was becoming a luxury for us. We had heard about Angel Food from my mom, checked the web site out and wanted to know more. So we stopped in at The Grove City Church of the Nazarene here in Grove City, Ohio. We felt very welcome. The ladies we talked to were GREAT. We ordered and have been getting the food for the past 6 months. GOD BLESS YOU ALL!

Our GOD is awesome! Thank you for all of your hard work and efforts at AFM headquarters. Because of this great ministry, we have seen 1,589 salvations this year! Thank you and know that we are praying for you.

Praise God for Angel Food! God has used it as a very positive influence in our church. Several years ago, when we became a host site, people began volunteering, working and ministering together. Two months ago, we decided to take this outreach to the next level by focusing more on ministry and prayer during distribution. We began taking prayer requests and having a prayer team available during distribution. As a result, we have seen many people come to salvation, our distribution runs as smooth as silk, and everyone has a renewed sense of purpose! The blessings of God have come to our church in a greater way as we are praying and lifting up Jesus.

I am a prayer minister and a member of Florissant Church of Christ. Over the past 10 years I’ve experienced the power of God, and seen God do miracles through prayer. He is still doing miraculous things today! I have had the privilege of being involved with AFM through Centennial Baptist Church and am part of our prayer group. On distribution day, we pray for the people who volunteer, as well as the people who pick up their food. I’ve seen God’s hand at work in many lives as we have prayed for them on distribution day. We serve a good God! When we “seek, ask, believe,” we will receive.

September was our first month to distribute Angel Food at Oldtown Baptist Fellowship. My husband and I picked up our orders from Refuge House. Though we are up in years, we thought we could handle it. When we arrived the distribution was packed and I was a little overwhelmed. A lady came up and gave me a big hug, and I told her I was concerned about being able to handle our orders. That wasn’t a problem though. Several young people surrounded us, got our order together, carried it out and loaded our truck. I held back tears of joy in seeing how people were helping one another while doing God's work. When we were ready to leave, we were blocked in and a man helped us inch out of the parking lot—literally. It was so close it made me think of the song, "I can feel the brush of angel’s wings, I see glory on each face. Surely the presence of the Lord is in this place.” Next morning at church, that was our opening song! God let us know His hand was in all of it. We thank God for the opportunity to work with those who care about others. Praise God for Angel Food!

Saturday, August 23, 2008, was our first Angel Food distribution at First Congregational Church of Kewanee, Illinois. There was such a spirit of cooperation among our members, and a sense of tremendous appreciation from those picking up their orders. Volunteers in their eighties, and children as young as seven from our congregation pitched in to make our distribution a success. While everyone was tired at day’s end, all agreed it was well worth the effort.

Sunday, our congregation met in a local park to share breakfast and have a time of worship. Members who had worked during distribution, shared about their experiences. With humility and tears in their eyes, they expressed sincere praise to God and gratitude to each other for the unexpected and wonderful experience that came from simply handing out food!

"What a blessing it was to give without expecting anything in return," one volunteer said. "And the spirit of cooperation and purpose in our church has not been like this in a long time. It was truly a spiritual experience and everyone could feel the Holy Spirit’s presence."

We also discussed what had worked well, and what we could do to help make next month’s distribution even better. Our church had such a tremendous time reaching out to our neighbors with God’s love and goodness through Angel Food, that we are already looking forward to the experience again next month!

All praises be to our most excellent God, and may His blessings be upon Angel Food Ministries and its host sites.

I want to thank everyone involved in helping my family to get the food you gave us. Everything was so organized. I really didn’t know where I was going, but I saw the sign, and then followed the cones, and I brought a basket. I had agreed to pick up the food for another domestic violence mom, but I’m not the most physically able person. The wonderful volunteers were ready to assist me and even carried my treasures to the car. I was so grateful. The food was great! Thank you for this opportunity, your forward thinking ability and partnerships that you have created to benefit the public is an amazing gift.

I have a friend who is out of work and couldn't afford to buy food. I normally bargain shop at area stores for great deals, but I knew I couldn't fill my grocery list and my friend's at the same time on my food budget . . . until I remembered Angel Food Ministries. Thanks to the low cost and great menu, I was able to fill both our pantries and freezers. Two families had food for a whole month for under $200 thanks to AFM.

OH MY GOODNESS! I have to tell you how much you have helped our family. My husband was in a coma for over six weeks. We lost our home, he lost his job and it completely wiped out our savings. Upon his recovery we began ordering Angel Food and still do! We now receive food stamps, but to feed a family of three, and at times four, a month on what we receive would be impossible if it weren’t for Angel Food! Thank you for helping us rebuild our lives.

Oh what blessings we had Saturday! A young woman picked up a food box that had been donated to her. “Who has done such a wonderful thing?” she asked tearfully. I put my arms around her and told her there were a lot of angels and people with kind hearts. Then as distribution was winding down, another young woman came in and asked how Angel Food worked. I explained and asked if she would like to order. She said she didn’t have any money and left. As she was getting in a van with her family, my husband ran to give her an extra box we had purchased. They were so surprised and grateful. It was such a joy to give to them!

“Angel” Delivers Easter Baskets & Food

Throughout the year, we’ve been taking food to a needy family. In April my trunk was full and topped off with an Easter Dinner box and three Easter baskets. When I got to the house there was no answer at the door. Vehicles were in the driveway, so I began unloading the food on the porch. Two precious eyes were peeking through the blinds watching me. I waved and smiled each time I carried a box. When done, I waved again and left. Later, a message from the mom explained that after three sleepless nights due to severe pain from surgery, she and her husband had collapsed into deep sleep just before I arrived. When they awoke, their daughter rushed to say, “MOMMY, DADDY! AN ANGEL CAME TO OUR HOUSE! A LADY ANGEL!” I''ve been called a lot of things over the years, but never an angel! It made me cry.
